In Mumbai, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh, who was serving as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on deputation. Singh was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August while leading an ED search team that had conducted a raid at a jeweller's residence in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case linked to a Chinese-controlled investment app. Although Singh was not the investigating officer assigned to the case being probed by the ED's Delhi team, he reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid, threatening to arrest his son if the money was not paid. The jeweller reported the incident to the CBI, which then set up a trap and arrested Singh in Delhi after he accepted the bribe. Despite his failed bail application at the sessions court, Singh remains in jail custody. At the time of his arrest, a phone not registered in Singh's name was seized by the CBI.
